Security & Data Governance

Protecting Information.
Preserving Trust.

Financial information is one of a business's most valuable assets.

At Scale Resource Group, we believe modern financial operations require more than accurate reporting. They require disciplined stewardship of information, controlled processes, responsible use of technology, and a commitment to protecting client trust.

Our operating model combines experienced financial leadership with a Microsoft 365 Business Premium platform — an enterprise-grade environment that includes built-in security, identity controls, threat protection, encryption, and governance capabilities.

This page describes how those tools are deployed, what they are designed to do, and what they mean for the businesses we serve.

Our Approach

Our Security Philosophy

Security is not a single tool or software product.

It is a collection of decisions, processes, controls, and responsibilities that work together to support the protection of information throughout its lifecycle. SRG's operating model is guided by principles that may include:

Least-privilege access
Need-to-know authorization
Multi-factor authentication
Controlled change management
Segregation of duties
Ongoing monitoring and review
Documented recovery procedures
Human oversight of automation and advanced intelligence

These principles support our commitment to protecting sensitive business information while enabling efficient and effective financial operations.

Where appropriate, SRG utilizes selected concepts from recognized security and governance frameworks as internal operating references. This does not represent certification or formal attestation.

Throughout this page, we distinguish between controls that are currently active in our operating environment, capabilities available within our platform that we draw on as appropriate, and enhancements we are actively evaluating. Where a capability is described as a platform feature rather than a deployed control, that distinction is noted.

Technology Platform

A Modern Technology Foundation

SRG utilizes a modern Microsoft-based technology platform designed to support secure, scalable, and reliable financial operations. Rather than relying on disconnected spreadsheets, uncontrolled email chains, and manual processes, our approach combines financial expertise, documented operating procedures, and integrated business technology.

Why This Matters

Technology alone does not create better business outcomes.

The greatest value comes from combining experienced financial leadership, disciplined operating procedures, and modern technology within a unified operating model. SRG's objective is not simply implementing software.

Our objective is helping business owners gain clarity, confidence, control, and actionable Financial Intelligence that supports better business decisions. Technology supports this objective. Human expertise, professional judgment, and operational accountability remain central to how SRG serves its clients.

As information becomes increasingly distributed across systems, documents, communications, dashboards, and workflows, advanced intelligence tools can help connect information that might otherwise remain isolated. Used responsibly, these capabilities help financial leaders spend less time gathering information and more time interpreting it, acting on it, and creating value from it.

EvaluatingUnder active review for future deployment.

Microsoft 365 Business Premium

Active

The enterprise-grade foundation SRG operates on — not the standard consumer or small-business tier.

Business Premium includes built-in security features unavailable in lower Microsoft 365 tiers: advanced threat protection, device management, identity controls, and information governance. This is the platform layer that makes the controls below possible.

Microsoft Entra ID

Active

Controls who can sign in and what they can access — across every system, application, and document in the SRG environment.

Multi-factor authentication is enforced for all SRG accounts. Access is granted based on role and business need. When a user's role changes or an engagement ends, access is reviewed and adjusted. For clients, this means the people who can reach your financial information are the people who are supposed to.

Microsoft Defender

Active

Monitors the SRG environment for threats — across email, devices, identities, and applications — and supports detection and response.

Defender is actively deployed across SRG's environment. It provides real-time threat signals, alerts on suspicious activity, and supports investigation when something unusual occurs. It does not eliminate every threat, but it significantly improves visibility into what is happening across the platform.

Encryption

Active

Client financial information is encrypted in transit and at rest within the Microsoft 365 environment.

Data moving between SRG systems and clients is encrypted using TLS. Data stored within Microsoft 365 — documents, workpapers, reports — is encrypted at rest by the platform. SRG does not transmit sensitive financial information through unencrypted channels as a standard practice.

Microsoft Purview

Active

Governs how information is classified, labeled, retained, and protected based on its sensitivity.

SRG uses Purview to apply information classification — distinguishing Public, Internal, Client Confidential, and Restricted materials — and to enforce retention and handling policies appropriate to each category. This is how governance decisions get translated into actual controls on documents and data.

Microsoft 365 & SharePoint

Active

The controlled environment where client workpapers, reports, and supporting documents are stored and managed.

Rather than financial information living in email inboxes or on individual computers, SharePoint provides a centralized, access-controlled location. Documents are versioned, access is logged, and retention policies apply automatically.

Ramp

Active

Spend management, corporate card controls, and expense visibility — integrated with SRG's financial operations work.

Ramp is actively used in SRG's own operations and recommended to clients where appropriate. It provides real-time visibility into spending, enforces approval workflows, and reduces the manual effort associated with expense management and reconciliation.

Microsoft Copilot

Platform Capability

An advanced intelligence layer built into Microsoft 365 that can help connect information across documents, communications, and business systems.

Copilot is available within SRG's Microsoft 365 Business Premium environment. Where it is used, it operates within the same access controls and governance boundaries as the rest of the platform — it can only surface information a user already has permission to access. Human review and professional judgment remain required for all significant financial conclusions, executive reporting, and client deliverables.

Microsoft Power BI

Platform Capability

Transforms financial and operational data into dashboards and performance indicators for leadership visibility.

Power BI is available within the platform and used on engagements where dashboard reporting is part of the scope. It does not replace financial statements — it supplements them with visual performance indicators that help leadership teams track what matters.

Microsoft Power Automate

Platform Capability

Supports approved workflow automation — notifications, approvals, and repetitive process steps — within governed boundaries.

Where Power Automate is deployed, it operates within defined approval workflows and is subject to the same change management and human oversight standards as other SRG processes.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Evaluating

A modern financial operations and business management platform under evaluation for select client engagements.

SRG's Financial Intelligence platform operates across multiple accounting and ERP environments. Business Central is one foundation we are actively evaluating for engagements that require a scalable, integrated financial operations platform.

Client Impact

What This Means for Our Clients

SRG has invested in enterprise-class security, governance, information protection, and operational controls designed to support the responsible handling of client information. While no system can eliminate every risk, our objective is to create an operating environment that helps protect information, improve accountability, reduce unnecessary exposure, and support business continuity.

Identity Verification

Multi-factor authentication is enforced for all SRG accounts. A password alone is not sufficient to access SRG systems, client documents, or financial workpapers.

What this means for clients

Your information is not protected solely by a password.

Access Controls

Access is granted according to legitimate business need and approved responsibilities.

What this means for clients

Individuals should only receive access to the information necessary to perform their role.

Information Protection

Client financial information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Documents are classified by sensitivity and handled according to documented retention and protection policies.

What this means for clients

Financial information receives a different level of handling than general business materials.

Threat Monitoring

Security technologies support detection of suspicious activity and potential threats.

What this means for clients

Potential issues may be identified sooner, allowing appropriate investigation and response.

Data Governance

Information is managed using documented governance and operational practices.

What this means for clients

Important information remains organized, traceable, appropriately protected, and available when needed.

Operational Resilience

SRG maintains continuity, recovery, and knowledge-preservation practices.

What this means for clients

Financial operations are designed with preparation for unexpected disruptions.

Human Accountability

Technology supports our work. It does not replace professional responsibility.

What this means for clients

Significant financial conclusions, executive reporting, and client deliverables remain subject to human review before release.

Knowledge Enablement

Advanced intelligence tools may assist in organizing, locating, summarizing, and connecting information across approved business systems and workflows.

What this means for clients

Your financial leadership team can spend less time searching for information and more time analyzing it, helping improve responsiveness, visibility, and decision support.

Information Handling

Information Classification & Protection

Not all information carries the same level of sensitivity. Information categories may include:

Public

Information approved for general distribution.

Internal

Information intended for authorized SRG personnel and approved stakeholders.

Client Confidential

Financial, operational, and business information intended for authorized users.

Restricted

Highly sensitive information requiring enhanced handling and limited access.

Access to sensitive information is intended to be granted only to authorized individuals with a legitimate business need.

Records Management

Data Governance & Records Management

Reliable decisions require reliable information.

SRG maintains documented operating practices designed to support:

Data retention
Evidence preservation
Access reviews
Change management
Incident documentation
Operational record management
Knowledge preservation
Business continuity planning

Client information remains subject to the ownership, confidentiality, retention, access, return, and disposition provisions established within applicable engagement agreements. SRG's role is to manage, protect, process, analyze, and report on information in support of authorized business purposes.

Human Accountability

Financial Intelligence with Human Accountability

Modern technology can accelerate reporting, improve visibility, automate routine work, and provide deeper operational insight.

However, technology does not replace professional judgment.

Automation supports decision-making. People remain responsible for it.

Significant financial conclusions, executive reporting, and client deliverables remain subject to appropriate human review and approval before release.

Operational Resilience

Business Continuity & Operational Resilience

Reliable service requires preparation.

SRG maintains operational practices designed to support continuity during personnel, technology, vendor, or process disruptions. These practices may include:

Operational documentation
Knowledge preservation
Recovery planning
Successor readiness
Controlled release management
Manual fallback procedures
Vendor reviews
Continuous improvement activities

Our objective is to provide dependable financial operations while maintaining appropriate oversight and accountability.
