Our Story
Built for Financial Operations
SRG was founded on a simple observation: most growing businesses are underserved by their finance function — and the gap between what they have and what they need is larger than they realize.
Schedule a ConsultationWhy SRG Exists
Scale Resource Group was founded by Brian Moore and Dawn McLaughlin — two finance professionals who spent their careers inside companies navigating exactly the problems SRG was built to solve. Rapid growth without a finance function to match it. PE-backed transactions with no controller in place. Leadership teams making decisions without reliable financial data.
SRG was built to close that gap — combining experienced financial leadership, operational finance management, and technology-enabled workflows within a single engagement model. Not a staffing firm. Not a traditional CPA firm. A financial operations partner.
What We Do
Financial Operations, End to End
SRG operates across the full financial operations stack — from day-to-day accounting through CFO-level strategy. Every engagement is scoped to the specific needs of the organization.
Accounting Operations
Full-cycle accounting, close management, reconciliations, and financial reporting — delivered as an embedded part of your organization.
CFO Advisory
Strategic financial leadership, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and decision support — without the cost of a full-time CFO.
Advanced Intelligence & Automation
Intelligent automation and advanced intelligence tools integrated into finance workflows — designed to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy where the environment supports it.
Interim Leadership
Full-time or near-full-time financial leadership during vacancies, transitions, and critical periods.
Every engagement begins with a Financial Operations Assessment — a structured review of your finance function that identifies gaps, risks, and the highest-value opportunities before any scope of work is recommended.
Where We Have Worked
SRG's approach is informed by leadership experience in Big Four assurance, public-company SEC reporting and SOX, contract CFO leadership, multi-entity private-equity controllership, treasury, forecasting, diligence, and post-acquisition integration. That experience is applied selectively to the needs and defined scope of each engagement.
Startups & Early-Stage Companies
Finance function buildout, first close processes, investor reporting, and the transition from founder-managed finances to a structured accounting operation.
PE-Backed Companies
Post-close finance integration, reporting package buildout, audit readiness, and the finance leadership coverage that PE sponsors require from day one.
Mid-Market & Owner-Operated Businesses
Close remediation, reporting improvement, CFO advisory, and the operational finance management that growing businesses need but rarely have in place.
Companies in Transition
Leadership vacancies, system migrations, financing rounds, and audit preparation — situations where the finance function needs to perform at a higher level than it currently does.
The Future of Finance
Technology in Service of Financial Operations
SRG integrates advanced intelligence and automation tools into finance workflows — not as a product, but as a capability embedded in how we work.
The tools SRG uses are purpose-built for finance operations: intelligent document processing, automated close workflows, real-time reporting infrastructure, and Microsoft Copilot integration across the accounting stack.
Every technology decision is made in the context of the engagement — what the organization's systems support, what the team can sustain, and where automation creates genuine operational value rather than complexity.
How We Work
How We Work
SRG operates as an embedded part of the organizations we serve — not as an outside vendor, but as a functional extension of the finance team.
Honest Assessment First
Every engagement begins with a clear-eyed review of where the finance function actually stands — not where it should be, and not a sales process. If SRG is not the right fit, we will say so.
Scope Matched to Need
No standard packages. Every engagement is scoped to the specific situation — the organization's size, complexity, and the problems that actually need to be solved.
Human Judgment at the Center
Technology supports the work. Experienced finance professionals make the decisions, interpret the data, and take responsibility for the output.
Operational, Not Advisory
SRG does the work — not just the strategy. Recommendations come with execution, and execution comes with accountability.
Financial Operations Assessment
The Financial Operations Assessment
Before recommending a scope of work, SRG conducts a structured review of your finance function. It is not a sales call — it is a working session where an experienced SRG finance professional walks through your accounting processes, close procedures, reporting, technology, controls, and governance with you directly. The goal is a clear, honest picture of where your finance function stands today, where the gaps are, and where the highest-value opportunities are. The depth and focus are tailored to your organization's size, complexity, and objectives.
Who It Is For
The assessment is designed for founders, operators, and leadership teams who sense that their finance function is not keeping pace with the business — but are not sure exactly where the gaps are or what to prioritize. It is equally relevant for PE-backed companies building a finance function post-close, mid-market businesses preparing for a financing round or audit, and organizations navigating a leadership transition or operational change that will place new demands on the finance function.
What to Expect
Most assessments are completed in one to two working sessions, typically spanning one to two weeks depending on scheduling and the scope of areas under review. Each session runs approximately 60 to 90 minutes. No advance preparation or documentation is required — SRG works from what you have. You will leave with a clearer picture of your finance function than you had before, regardless of whether you engage SRG.
What Is Reviewed
Accounting processes
How transactions are recorded, categorized, and reconciled — and where manual effort, inconsistency, or error risk exists in the day-to-day accounting function.
Close procedures
How your month-end close is structured, how long it takes, and where the cycle is slow, manual, or dependent on a single person.
Financial reporting
Whether your financial statements are timely, accurate, and formatted for the decisions your leadership team actually needs to make.
Technology stack
What accounting and finance systems you are running, how well they are configured, and where automation or integration could reduce effort and improve accuracy.
Controls
Whether the controls in place are sufficient to prevent errors and fraud — including segregation of duties, approval workflows, and documentation practices.
Governance
Whether your finance function has the policies, procedures, and oversight structure appropriate for your organization's size and risk profile.
Business intelligence
Whether leadership has the financial visibility — cash position, margins, KPIs, forecasts — needed to make informed operating decisions.
Typical Deliverables
At the conclusion of the assessment, SRG delivers a written findings memo organized by functional area, a prioritized list of recommendations with suggested sequencing, and — where an ongoing engagement is appropriate — a proposed scope of work tailored to your organization's size and objectives. The findings memo covers each area reviewed, identifies the specific gaps and risks observed, and explains the recommended next steps in plain language. Recommendations are specific to your situation; there is no standard package or predetermined outcome. There is no obligation to proceed.
After the Assessment
If an ongoing engagement makes sense, SRG will present a proposed scope of work at the conclusion of the assessment — covering the specific services, team structure, and fee arrangement appropriate for your organization. If the assessment surfaces a discrete project need (a system implementation, a one-time close remediation, a transaction), SRG can scope that separately. If the timing is not right or the fit is not there, you keep the findings memo and recommendations at no cost. There is no pressure and no follow-up sales process.
What You Can Expect to Learn
Most business owners leave the assessment with a clearer understanding of where their finance function is strong, where it is exposed, and what the highest-priority changes are. Common findings include close cycles that can be compressed, reporting gaps that are creating blind spots for leadership, control weaknesses that represent audit or fraud risk, and technology configurations that are adding manual work rather than reducing it. The assessment does not produce a generic report — it produces a specific, actionable picture of your finance function as it actually operates today.
Common Problems We Find
Every finance function is different, but certain problems appear consistently across organizations at similar stages. Founders who have outgrown a part-time bookkeeper and have no reliable monthly close. PE-backed companies that closed a transaction without a finance function in place and are running on spreadsheets. Mid-market businesses where the CFO departed and the controller is stretched beyond their capacity. Growing service businesses where cash flow is unpredictable because the reporting is two months behind. If any of these sound familiar, the assessment is designed for exactly that situation.
When an Assessment May Not Be the Right Starting Point
If your organization already has a well-functioning finance team and a clear, specific project need — a system implementation, a transaction, an audit — a scoped project engagement may be a more efficient starting point than a full assessment. If you are in the earliest stage of a startup with minimal transaction volume and no reporting requirements yet, the assessment may surface fewer actionable findings than it would at a later stage. SRG will tell you directly if a different starting point makes more sense for your situation.
What the Assessment Includes
Who it is for
Founders, operators, and leadership teams who sense their finance function is not keeping pace with the business — and PE-backed companies, businesses preparing for a financing round or audit, and organizations navigating a leadership transition.
Business questions reviewed
Accounting processes, close procedures, financial reporting, technology stack, internal controls, governance structure, and business intelligence — reviewed against the demands of your organization's current stage.
What to bring
No advance preparation or documentation is required. SRG works from what you have. If you have recent financial statements, a close calendar, or a list of current systems, those are useful — but not a prerequisite.
What happens during the conversation
One to two working sessions of approximately 60 to 90 minutes each. An experienced SRG finance professional walks through each functional area with you directly — asking questions, reviewing what you have, and identifying where the gaps and risks are.
What you receive
A clearer picture of your finance function than you had before the conversation. If an ongoing engagement makes sense, SRG will present a proposed scope of work. If a discrete project is the right starting point, SRG can scope that separately.
What is not included
The assessment is not an audit, a financial review, or a compliance certification. It does not produce a standardized score, benchmark, or generic report. Findings are specific to your organization — there is no predetermined outcome.
Next-step decision
At the conclusion, you decide whether to proceed — with an ongoing engagement, a scoped project, or nothing at all. There is no obligation and no follow-up sales process. You keep whatever clarity the conversation produced.
